KFC Sucks For My Health

We were dubious when we first read that Kentucky Fried Chicken was coming out with a new sandwich that does away with the bread in favor of two fried fillets. And that the "sandwich" part of the sandwich involved was made of cheese, something called Colonel's sauce .. and bacon?

Could that possibly be true?

After all, this was the fast-food chain that seemed to be going all healthy on us, setting off stampedes for its new grilled chicken offerings.

We lobbed a call to a media representative. And the rest is a good news-bad news story. First, the good news. The sandwich does indeed exist, and it is called the double down. It is made of two Original Recipe fillets, bacon, Swiss and pepper jack cheese and something called the Colonel's sauce.

The bad news? The sandwich is only being tested in Providence, R.I., and Omaha, Neb. But if it does well -- and really, why wouldn't this sandwich do well? -- it could head out West.

Pinched Nerves Suck

I have a pinched nerve in my shoulder and it hurts like HELL! This sucks! I actually woke up to the pain, and there wasn't a single position I could get in that didn't hurt.
Overall I have really bad posture and since I spend most of my time on the computer, reading or knitting, I need to remember to stop and stretch more. Right now, ibuprofen is my good friend.
God, I'm getting old and falling apart!

Kim Jong Il Still Sucks, But Laura Ling and Euna Lee Pardoned is Awesome

(CNN) -- North Korean President Kim Jong Il has pardoned and ordered the release of two U.S. journalists, state-run news agency KCNA said Wednesday.
President Clinton met Tuesday with North Korea leader Kim Jong Il.

The announcement came after former U.S. President Bill Clinton met with top North Korean officials in Pyongyang to appeal for the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who had been arrested while reporting from the border between North Korea and China.

"Clinton expressed words of sincere apology to Kim Jong Il for the hostile acts committed by the two American journalists against the DPRK after illegally intruding into it," the news agency reported. "Clinton courteously conveyed to Kim Jong Il an earnest request of the U.S. government to leniently pardon them and send them back home from a humanitarian point of view.

"The meetings had candid and in-depth discussions on the pending issues between the DPRK and the U.S. in a sincere atmosphere and reached a consensus of views on seeking a negotiated settlement of them."

The report said Clinton then conveyed a message from President Obama "expressing profound thanks for this and reflecting views on ways of improving the relations between the two countries."

It added, "The measure taken to release the American journalists is a manifestation of the DPRK's humanitarian and peace-loving policy.

"The DPRK visit of Clinton and his party will contribute to deepening the understanding between the DPRK and the U.S. and building the bilateral confidence."

DPRK is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the nation's official name.

The two American journalists had been held in the reclusive communist nation since their arrest in March.

A statement from their families was posted Tuesday on the Web site lauraandeuna.com:

"The families of Laura Ling and Euna Lee are overjoyed by the news of their pardon. We are so grateful to our government: President Obama, Secretary Clinton and the U.S. State Department for their dedication to and hard work on behalf of American citizens. We especially want to thank President Bill Clinton for taking on such an arduous mission and Vice President Al Gore for his tireless efforts to bring Laura and Euna home."

Earlier in the day, White House Secretary Robert Gibbs said Clinton was on a "solely private mission to secure the release of two Americans."

Ling and Lee are reporters for California-based Current TV -- a media venture launched by Clinton's former vice president, Al Gore.

The two were sentenced in June to 12 years in prison on charges of entering the country illegally to conduct a smear campaign. Since the United States has no diplomatic relations with North Korea, efforts to resolve the issue had been handled through Sweden, which represents U.S. interests in North Korea.

Ants Suck

Now that it's getting hot again, those gosh-darned ants are back! Since I have a cat, I don't like spraying Raid everywhere, so I've been just spraying corners and then wiping up any areas my cat can get to.

I need to find some affective non-toxic forms of ant-genocide. Here's some tips I've found but have yet to try.

• we have found that they hate baby powder (preferably scented talcum). If you find a trail of them in your house, or some "scouts" looking for food so they can bring the rest of their nest to enjoy it, just sprinkle the baby powder on the ants and wherever they are coming in from, if you can find it, and you will see them begin to get upset. After a while, they'll be gone, and they won't be back again for awhile, even after you remove the powder. We dust baby powder on our honey jar and sugar bowl, as well as the outside of the cats' dish and it keeps the ants off.

• Sounds crazy, but try vinegar! Fill a squirt bottle with plain old cheap white vinegar, and squirt it anyplace you've seen ants (kitchen counters, windowsills, etc) and let it dry. It's non-toxic, won't harm anything, and the smell will go away in just a couple of minutes. It worked for me!

• I have a suggestion for the ant problem; plain old cinnamon. I put in or at the site of the ant invasion, they back off quick!

• Black pepper is a nonlethal, poison free, cheap, and safe way to get rid of ants - sprinkle the black pepper where you see them congregating and watch 'them scatter. Follow them to where they're exiting - which is the same spot they're entering in at - and sprinkle the pepper at that spot to keep them from coming back in. It's safe to use in your cabinets, on windowsills, near your pets and kids, around food, etc.

• I have a book with several tips for the use of apple cider vinegar. One of them is getting rid of ants. Make a mixture of 50/50 water and vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the surface with the solution several times a day. Ants guide themselves with their scent. Vinegar has a natural chemical that alters ants' scent and which ants avoid.

• My husband was in conversation recently with a gentleman in the pest control business. This man preferred to use environmentally safe methods to control pests. His recommendation for ants was: equal parts Windex and Ivory Soap. Simply mix, and spray problem areas.

• Most ant poisons have a sweetness to them that attracts most but not all ants. Some ants are attracted to grease. Observe your ants and see what they like, maybe you need a different bait. Also, though this is sometimes difficult, see if you can trace them back to where they are getting in, because caulking is usually the best solution, as it prevents recurrence.

• I live in south Florida, the bug capital of the world, and I don't use anything toxic in or around my home. I discovered a safe way to get rid of ants. I found Shakley's Basic H. It is a non-toxic soap made from soybeans. I take a pint spray bottle, fill it 1/3 with Basic H and 2/3 with water, mixing gently. Follow your trail of ants to try to discover where they are entering. Spray a thin stream of the mix around where they are coming in. I also spray around my door frames and into any openings where they might enter. Caulking any little holes or openings is also helpful. Please remember this is a SOAP. Do not spray where it will be stepped on and someone will slip. I reapply it as needed. Try to keep it off painted surfaces as it will eventually bubble the paint. You can also put three tablespoons into a Miracle Grow feeder full of water and spray outside around the foundation of your house. It will soak into the soil and get into the nests. Do this once or twice a month until the problem abates. As an added bonus, use the same mixture in your feeder and spray your lawn to keep it flea free. I also keep the little spray bottle handy to spritz any bugs that try to dash in the door when it's open. If it can kill a palmetto bug (roaches that are as big as B-52's), it will kill anything!

• I had a bad problem with them last year and tried everything. Then, I read in a book to place Bay Leaves on your counters and preferably along the trail where they are coming in (if you can find it). It worked. Now I make sure that I keep some behind my canisters, etc. on my countertops.

• We use plain white chalk drawn in a line at the place they come in they wont cross for some reason and also I use comet cleanser sprinkled where children/animals don't go.

• So far this has worked in my house. First you need to find out where they are coming in at. To kill ants that have entered your home without poison I use straight Simple Green. Believe me it works. Then after they are all dead, clean the area and spray the area with a peppermint spray. Fill a spray bottle with water and add approximately 10 - 15 drops of peppermint essential oil , sometimes called Peppermint Spirits. Ants won't cross the area because they hate the smell. Hope it works as well for you as it has for me. Please note this can be dangerous to cats!

•Ants will crawl away from mint. I did this as a science experiment and it worked. Just plant mint all around your house. Especially near doorways.

• A line of cayenne pepper usually stops them from crossing over it.

• Try putting some whole cloves around. I put them on the window sills and door jams and also sprinkled a few around in my bottom cabinets. It worked.

• I recently purchased the book “The Garden Guy – A Seasonal Guide to Organic Gardening in the Desert Southwest” by Dave Owens. Below is quoted information that may help you out. Dave Owens, does the Garden Guy's segments on KTVK (Channel 3) in the metro Phoenix area during Good Morning Arizona. – C.L.

Outdoor Ant Control
Supplies: 1 to 2 gallons water
Stove or barbecue grill
Instructions: Heat water to 160 to 170 degrees. Quietly sneak up to the mounds of ants and pour the boiling water down the hole.
Note: I normally try to do this between 11am and 2 pm.

Indoor Ant Control
Supplies: 1 tbsp. boric acid
1 tbsp. mint jelly or peanut butter
1 cracker
Small cardboard box
Instructions: Mix the boric acid and mint jelly; spread mixture on a cracker. Punch pinholes in a cardboard box; place cracker inside. Place box in an area where ants cause problems, but away from children and pets.
Note: The mint jelly or peanut butter lures the ants in and the boric acid kills them.

Indoor and Outdoor Ant Control
Supplies: Diatomaceous earth
Instructions: Dust food-grade diatomaceous earth along the ant’s pathways.
Note: The white powder will cut through their exoskeleton and they will dehydrate and die.

Indoor and Outdoor Ant Control Supplies:
1 1/2 cup Cream of Wheat
Instructions: Place a dish of Cream of Wheat where the ants can access it.
Note: After they eat it, the cereal expands and the ants will explode.

• Red chili powder !! I've been using it to repel ants for years. Make a paste using a little water, find where the little black pests are coming in and going out and paste the area. you can sprinkle the powder too, but I find adding water makes it more potent. The ants hate the stuff. Brooke and Mary B.

• To trap ants leave an open bottle of maple syrup (cheap stuff is ok) the ants love it and they drown happy. Just make sure you your children and sig. other know about it (LOL). Also I have had luck with the Torro ant poison. It's like a syrup. This they take back to the colony. - Lucy

• Mix borax with sugar water. Place it on the ant trails and where the ants are coming in. It kills any ant that eats the mixture. From CSinbad

• Some mint oil and mint chewing gum help repel ants in a house. placed a stick or open pack of chewing gum on a shelf. Outside you can plant mint around the foundation. It makes a good groundcover and is fragrant when it's stepped on.

Michael Jackson Dies at Age 50

I just found out that Michael Jackson died today of a heart attack. What else can I say ... he was awesome and it sucks that he's no longer with us.

This might be the first time I actually care that a celebrity has died. I truly believe this man has touched my life. I remember my dad buying the records to play for me when I was only 6. I'm so sad you are both gone ...

Spencer sucks

“I’m too rich and I’m too famous to be sitting with these people and cleaning up their s*** in the jungle, my man. And this cast is devaluing our fame right now. I’m sitting next to VH1 comedians that I have never even seen before… I thought it was gonna be all celebrities,” Spencer says on the show, "I'm a Celebrity".

It sucks that I'm watching this show too

Buffy Without Whedon Sucks

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.

"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.

Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."

No Reggae at the SD County Fair This Year

Every year at the San Diego County Fair (a.k.a the Del Mar Fair if you've been around for a while), one of my favorite reggae bands, Steel Pulse, has a free concert. I'm normally not a big concert person, but I look forward to seeing Steel Pulse every year.

I just checked the lineup for the fair this year ... no Steel Pulse. No Reggae Day.
THIS SUCKS!

LA sucks

L.A. sucks, I basically never go there unless I have to... Which I did this past weekend. There's a ton of smog, traffic at fucking 1am on the 10 fwy, and bad drivers everywhere. It's impossible to find parking in any Chinese shopping center, and I almost got into 20 accidents. Food is damn good and cheap there though.

Veggie Dogs SUCK!

I'm not really a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of meat. I regularly eat veggie burgers - the ones at Islands are AWESOME by the way. Anyways ...
After another night of drinking and debauchery with Miss Sabrina, we decide to succumb to the screaming man with the sign pointing to the hot dog place down the street from our usual stomping grounds. Hey veggies are good, veggie burgers are good, so um maybe a veggie dog would be good.
I ordered a veggie dog and it SUCKED! I was pissed at how bad it was UGH! I drenched it with ketchup and it was still gross. Now I'm mad just thinking about how much that dog sucked. I want to punch whoever invented these things in the nuts.

Take Action to Protect Beluga Whale Habitat

Once numbering more than a thousand whales, the Cook Inlet beluga has been reduced to approximately 375 individuals and is now threatened by oil and gas development, pollution, shipping, and other impacts to its habitat in Alaska. In October 2008, federal officials protected the Cook Inlet beluga whale as an endangered species — over the objections of Alaska governor Sarah Palin. This long-overdue action came as a result of a petition and litigation by the Center for Biological Diversity and our allies.

While the Cook Inlet beluga whale is now listed under the Endangered Species Act, its habitat remains federally unprotected, since the federal government has illegally delayed designation of the species’ critical habitat. However, last week the administration finally launched the process of designating critical habitat and is now accepting comments on which areas should be protected for the Cook Inlet beluga whale.

Please let the responsible federal officials know that they have a duty to protect all habitat necessary for the Cook Inlet beluga whale’s recovery, and they must finalize and implement the habitat-protection rule as soon as possible.

Visit http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2167/t/5243/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=27101 to take action.

Last Known Wild Jaguar in the U.S. Dies

No more wild jaguars in the U.S.? That SUCKS.

Jaguars were declared endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 1997 but the Bush administration has done nothing to recover the species nor protect its habitat. On Monday, the Center for Biological Diversity argued in federal court in Tucson that the Bush administration's refusal to develop a recovery plan or designate critical habitat for endangered jaguars was illegal and should be reversed.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service argues that it doesn't need to protect the jaguar because it's too endangered. Because the jaguar's U.S. numbers have shrunk to near nothing, the agency argues it's too small to protect. Uhhh okaaaay ... that makes sense.

1% California Sales Tax Increase Effective April 1, 2009

Many of my friends are getting laid off. Some are losing their homes and having to short-sale or even foreclose. I didn't get a raise this year but things are getting more expensive. Even though I've been really good about not buying crap and saving my money, my savings account interest rate is down to 1.45%. Having to pay another 1% sales tax really sucks for everyone.
So what's this 1% increase going to help pay for? Obviously nothing for me. I'm not getting a bailout like those AIG execs who ended up with huge bonuses. They're even cutting down school budgets ... oh great ... more stupid kids running around asking me to buy them alcohol. Please educate these kids so they don't rob me in a few years.

This sucks.

People Suck

ABC has this show called "What Would You Do?" in which you get to see how much people suck.
In tonight's episode, actors pretend to be fraternity/sorority members hazing pledges. These people are being saran wrapped to light posts, forced to drink, spanked, yelled out ... tons of horrible things. The guys are wearing diapers and being walked like dogs. The girls are being called fat and ugly and have it written on their bodies with markers. Not only do many people walk by, some assholes even contribute. Some of the adults intervene but two women "help" make up funny and humiliating nicknames for the girls. When confronted by the cameras, they outright lie and say that they were just about to call the cops and were disgusted by the behavior.
